John B. McLaughlin document, 1859 May 30.

This document, dated May 30, 1859, was issued and signed by Governor Charles S. Morehead appointing McLaughlin as an agent for Kentucky to retrieve from Missouri an unnamed fugitive wanted for a felony. Two different versions of the state seal may be seen on this document. One likeness is printed on the document. It shows two men in frock coats side by side clasping hands with the state motto printed underneath. An embossed seal on the document is somewhat different. Both men are dressed in frock coats but they stand almost face to face. The motto is within a scroll arching around them.
